Broke Down Culture Blues
by Jeremiah Nighthawk Taylor
Might want to laugh, but you’re way too mad.
Look out your window, open your door;
Turn on your TV, get some more.
I’ve crossed my fingers, but I think we’re bound to lose.
I got the soul-decimating, broke-down culture blues!
The fix ain’t on Wall Street, it ain’t in D.C.;
Sorry to say, it’s just you and me.
It’s not from the left and it’s not from the right;
It’s not radical; there’s no need to fight.
I lift my eyes up and I pray for excuse.
But like Rome and Sodom, I think we’re bound to lose.
It’s hard to find in the church; there’s no answer in school;
You gotta admit that we’re broke-down fools.
No good up north, no good down south;
Listen up! I won’t shut my mouth.
No place left that you could ever choose,
Where you can’t sing the broke-down culture blues.
Right about now, you wonder where to go,
To find the high in all this low.
Look to Him who’s come to save
All His people from the grave.
Fix your eyes on Jesus! And you won’t ever lose;
And you won’t sing the broke-down culture blues.
